   Dog Food comes in about as many brands, shapes, sizes and types as their are shapes, sizes and types of dogs. Some are made from Human Grade Ingredients and others, well, might come from what is swept off the floor. You will hear terms such as 'Biologically Appropriate Raw Food', 'Holistic', 'Organic', 'All Natural' and 'Life Stage Appropriate'.
   Dogs like people can develop allergies to certain ingredients. If your dog has skin, digestive or ear problems you might consider changing food.
   Your Veterinarian can help in determining if these problems are caused by diet and help you in weeding out the offending ingredients. Often times switching to a premium food with only 2 main ingredients such as Lamb and Rice only or Fish and Potato will clear allergy problems. Then additional foods can be added one at time to see what your dog tolerates or what causes the return of the problem.
   There is a lot of research and opinions on dog food. Below are just some of the sources available on the Internet. Magazines such as the 'Whole Dog Journal' and 'Dog Fancy' can also provide information. Do your homework. Don't let your dog starve for nutrition because you think a dollar bag of food is good enough.
