ASPCA Adoption Center Unveils New ‘Real-Life Room’ For Dogs This Holiday Season In Collaboration With Celebrity Designer Dayna Isom Johnson

“Many of the animals we support at the ASPCA Adoption Center require an individualized approach to help them become someone’s perfect pet. These are animals that might otherwise be overlooked due to their medical or behavioral issues, ”said Rachel Maso, director of animal behavior at the ASPCA Adoption Center. “This room provides an enrichment that would not be possible in a traditional shelter while allowing our staff and volunteers to learn more about each dog and teach them new skills along the way. We are grateful to Dayna. and his creative vision for revamping our real life places to benefit vulnerable dogs this holiday season and into the future. “

Designed to resemble a home environment, the real-life room at the ASPCA Adoption Center offers dogs the opportunity to decompress while they are in the shelter and a quiet retreat where they can practice essential skills. To enhance the dog experience, the walls are painted a calming blue, one of two colors dogs can discern, and the space includes details such as a camera to monitor dogs being treated for the separation anxiety, frosted windows for privacy from other pets, washable mat and storage for training tools. Additional items include the ability to play relaxing music, a multi-functional crate that acts as a cozy den, and artwork on the walls celebrating ancient ASPCA dogs that were adopted into loving homes.

“My dog ​​was adopted after a rough start in life, so working with the ASPCA Adoption Center was an exciting way to benefit other dogs in need, while also learning from popular design trends. pets and humans, ”said Dayna. “The ASPCA provides incredible support to animals that can often be overlooked, and it was natural to work together to bring the simple joys that a comfortable space can offer to dogs who are still learning to cope with the experiences they can. meet at home. “
