Illinois animal shelter reaches dangerous capacity levels

Unfortunately, reaching critical capacities is nothing new for animal shelters across America, but an Illinois animal shelter has just issued a desperate appeal for adopters due to its “dangerously full” cages.

Winnebago County Animal Services in Rockford reaches ‘maximum critical capacity’

As a die-hard animal lover, it always breaks my heart to think of sweet, lonely animals stuck in cages at an animal shelter. Yes, shelters do their best to keep animals exercised, entertained, and loved, but at the end of the day, they’re still sleeping alone in a cage. These animals wait days, weeks and sometimes months, for a family to choose them, and now the situation of dogs in Winnebago County Animal Services is almost out of control.

What do I mean by “out of control”? I mean the shelter staff has to put two dogs together in a crate just so they have a place to sleep, and that’s a very dangerous situation for some dogs.

If you’re wondering why only 33 of the 80 dogs currently housed at Winnebago County Animal Services are available for adoption, I guess the other 47 are pending or waiting to be cleared for adoption.

Hope you get my point here; more animals arrive at the shelter every day, and if they don’t have a place to house them, they can’t help them. We cannot let this happen. PLEASE consider adopting one of the beautiful dogs pictured above. You can learn more about each dog and complete an adoption application now at winnebagoanimals.org.
